Have you ever tried making tempeh and
finally given up? Well, you are not alone.
Making tempeh is not hard if you know how
to make them. And an important part of knowing how to make
good tempeh is a good incubator. If you do not have the
right incubator to grow the tempeh you will not get good
tempeh consistently, or often no tempeh at
all.
What
is good tempeh? A good tempeh looks, smells, and tastes good.
The tempeh should be white on the outside, firm and compact on
the inside, and smells and tastes like good mushroom or has a
pleasant oncom (ontjom) aroma. The fermented tempeh beans are
soft like cheese.
If you want to make good tempeh you
should invest in a good incubator, and you will be happy
with your tempeh. Just like investing in a good oven where
you must be able to closely control the
temperature of the oven so that you can bake a
cake that looks and taste like a cake, and not
like something else. Do not use card boxes,
styrofoam ice chests, and the like to make your tempeh
incubator. You will not only be wasting your time, but you
also won't like the taste of your tempeh.
In the
following pages I will show you the links that you can click
to learn the basics of making tempeh, and I will show you what
I believe is the best incubator for its price that you can buy
for making tempeh at home plus pictures, and other tips and
hints that will help you make delicious tempeh and tempeh
dishes.
Finally, be persistent. Practice makes
perfect.
