Tamarind Marinated Tempeh
Have you tried marinating tempeh in a solution of tamarind blended with your favorite spices? If you have not, you should try it, because you will discover something new and delicious, tempeh marinated in tamarind.
Tamarind is classified as a fruit. It is native to tropical Africa. It was introduced into India long time ago. and is now cultivated in tropical areas all over the world. Many dishes in Indonesia are cooked with tamarind, like tamarind soup, fish marinated in a solution of tamarind and red chili pepper, and numerous others that you can make with tamarind.
Here is my favorite tempeh in tamarind recipe:
A B C D
In picture "A" I sliced small rectangle pieces of tempeh and tofu. In a separate bowl "B" I dissolved about two tablespoons of tamarind paste, see a sample package on my Favorite Ingredients page, with four cups of hot water, using a fork to break the solid pieces of the tamarind cake. After that, I strained the coarse solution into bowl "C," add some spices and salt, and soak the tempeh for about 15 minutes, as shown in picture "C". The tempeh is now ready to be fried in 225°F hot oil until light brown, picture "D".
That is all. Serve while warm. Enjoy.
